Garden Furniture

The tree smashed into the bonnet of their Proton as the twister hit Lowestoft on Saturday morning - had it fallen a moment later

It was one of a series of dramatic incidents sparked by fierce weather battering the county at the weekend, with roof tiles ripped off, walls blown over and trees damaged.

Among the worst affected areas was Easton, near Wickham Market, where another small tornado caused devastation in a matter of seconds.

A 60ft yew tree, thought to be 160-170 years old, came down at the home of Carol Davis, causing her wall to collapse at it was uprooted.

Mrs Davis, who was at home with her husband, John, said: I heard a couple of bangs and looked out and saw the yew tree.

Experts are warning of more possible gales on the way tonight and unsettled conditions lasting until Thursday.

Used furniture store opens in Galva

GALVA — A store specializing in used furniture has opened here.


Used Unforgotten Furniture opened for business last week at 120 Front St., formerly Dad’s Pizza. For decades, it was the E.W Houghton Lumber building.

The new shop features chairs, couches, dressers, beds, tables, dishes, toys, pictures, nic nacs, kitchen appliances, microwaves, washers and dryers and many more items. Used furniture will also be bought from the public. Willard McCurdy of Galva is owner.

Hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

McCurdy said he was very pleased with business on Tuesday, adding that many customers said he has “good prices.” He was also happy to find about a half dozen people waiting to get the first peek when he opened the door Tuesday.

McCurdy, who has bought and sold furniture for about six years, has several employees: Brenda Rouch, Mike Rouch, Billie Jo Bjorling, Janice Boland and Nichole Rouch.

He plans a grand opening in about two weeks.
